Introducing micropiles to Bahrain
TGE was asked to design foundations for this Unesco Heritage Listed Site for the Bahrain Authority of Culture and Antiquities.
The concrete structure was built around very delicate archeological remains which could not sustain vibrations from heavy conventional piling equipment. The entire site was underlain by loose sands and very shallow water-table.
TGE developed a micro-piled raft which allowed small drilling equipment to work in close proximity to the archeological remains. Load-testing of a micropile to failure was undertaken, followed by simulation of the test and extrapolation into a three-dimensional model of the raft with all of the imposed loads and micropiles inserted beneath heavy columns.
TGE’s involvement in this project supported the contractor Strong Force, to introduce micropile technology to Bahrain.
