Meet …. Diego Hernandez Hernandez
AKA Dr. Tequila
Geotechnical and Structural Engineer
Qualifications: PhD in Earthquake Engineering (UoA, NZ), MSc. in Civil Engineering (UNAM, Mexico), BSc. in Civil Engineering (UNAM, Mexico). Membership: MEngNZ.
Engineering Superpowers: Synthesising solutions across several engineering and science disciplines.
Engineering specialties: Liquid Storage Tanks, Fluid-Structure-Soil Interaction and Finite Element Analysis.
Favorite engineering tool (& why): Haul trucks! Those trucks are massive, and it would be really nice to drive one of those!
Favorite Soil Type (& why): High plasticity and expansional clays. Mexico City was built on a lake with predominant lacustrine clays. Nowadays, the city is sinking between 10 cm and 80 cm a year. Expansional clays are a headache for geotechnical engineers, but it represents a challenge to successfully build infrastructure.
Outside Interests: Running, playing football and getting lost in the bush.
